Piglet is a deaf blind pink chihuahua dachshund mix rescued from a hoarding situation in Georgia. On March 4, 2017, he traveled to CT to be fostered by veterinarian Melissa Shapiro, her husband Warren Shapiro, and their pack of 6 rescued dogs, until the rescue group could find him his forever home.
Of course, Piglet had other plans! The other dogs played with him and snuggled with him, his new Favorite Dad held him, and he went to work with his new mom. Piglet gained confidence and ultimately made it clear he was already home!. He was adopted by his foster family in May 2017.

Piglet inspires adults and children to be positive, resilient, inclusive, and kind through his social media pages and his Piglet Mindset educational program. Teachers download educational materials from PIGLETMINDSET.org to teach growth mindset and inclusion lessons as part of their ongoing SEL curriculum.

Piglet's new children's book is called PIGLET COMES HOME. It is a beautifully illustrated picture book that tells the sweet story of Piglet's rescue and becoming part of a family. It is labeled for ages 4-8, but truthfully, it is the new go to baby shower and children's birthday and holiday gift. And adults love it as well. It is destined to become a bedtime story tradition in many households!!

Our goal is to make sure that all Piglet Mindset students have their own copy of Piglet Comes Home so they can enjoy it with their own families.

We would like to provide books to children in underserved school communities. We started this project in June 2022 delivering 29 books to children in a bilingual classroom in Bridgeport, CT. We also sent 20 books to a class in Northern, CA. In addition to donating to individual children, we are also providing books to libraries in their schools.

We are setting out to gift 1000 books to children and school classrooms and libraries in underserved communities across the US by the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Please donate $25 per book to help us reach a total of $25,000!

Thank You!!!

Melissa, Warren, Piggy, and his Pack!
